Here we will look at the handbags from the current Spring 2008 collection for Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs. What is the difference between the two lines? Well that is simple to explain. The diffusion line was only launched in 2001, is more affordable and targets a younger hip audience - not the kind that walks around wearing diamond necklaces. Marc by Marc Jacobs has proved so popular that it is one of the first diffusion lines that has threatened to overshadow the mainline.

Marc Jacobs Collection Spring 2008
Personally I prefer this handbag collection to the Spring 2008 Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. It is much more colourful, playful and daring – much more me. I just wish the price-tag on these bags was much more me too!! Most of the handbags look quilted or are made from quilt like leather. Personal favourites are the little evening “Mini Bag” with the golden frog on it (A handbag with a golden frog is bound to instantly transform you into a princess, right?) the handbags with the motif of a purse printed on and any of the other bright coloured summer bags – such as the Lavender coloured Dash Handbag.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2008
This is supposed to be the younger more trendy line – In the Spring 2008 collection I do not see that, although there are some bags here that I do like. The colours are more subdued – with a lot of black, dark blue and brown and the Marc by Marc Jacobs logo plays and important part on many of the bags. Bags I like from this collection are the Sloane brown and red handle (a colourful example) and the Shopper bag that has a name tag print on it.

Is Marc Jacobs possibly trying to divert more attention to the Marc Jacobs collection mainline? After all that is where the big bucks are!
